Kilimanjaro Amenities & Accommodation

Trail conditions

The trails on Mount Kilimanjaro are well marked and well maintained, but sometimes, bad weather can make hikes a little bit difficult. Generally, you should be prepared to hike through varied weather conditions and varied terrains. The terrain can range from muddy, loose scree, snowy and icy; the weather also ranges from rainy, foggy and snowy.

Amenities – Toilets & Showers

The toilets along the trails are “long drop” public toilets located at every campsite. These toilets are small wooden houses built on a deep hole dug in the ground. There are no commodes in these toilets, so hikers have to relieve themselves in a squatting or standing position.

We provide private toilets on all climbs; you do not have to use the public toilets. Our private toilets consist of a plastic toilet and a privacy tent.

Note: Shower facilities do not exist on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Accommodation

You will sleep in quality and spacious tent on all routes except the Marangu route, where you will sleep in communal mountain huts; each with a bunk, a sponge mattress, and a pillow. Our tents are spacious, warm and waterproof; the tents are built for use in an extreme outdoor environment like Kilimanjaro.
